New Year, New Room, New Update!

It's been a long time since my last update. And mostly because I've spent the last several weeks with family, and moving my sewing workroom into the girls old room. It was Mya's nursery, then Annaka and Mya's playroom/art room. It was sad to sand down the flowers I painted on the wall when I was pregnant with Mya. Paint over the same flowers that she patted her hands over when she started to walk. Paint over the purple that overlooked all their play and creativity. But as they grow and I grow, things change. And it was time for me to embrace it. Now, I have a new space that inspires me to work. And they can still take over the rest of the house - like kids do!

The first Shop Update of the year will happen tonight, Sunday, January 12 at 7 p.m. CST. There'll be 80s, So Foxy, Gnome Living, Too Much Awesome, Oink, Woodland Dreams, and Exterminate Rainbows available along with other bags still in stock. As a reminder, to see any picture bigger, just click on it.

Thank you!

Now that the whole Black Friday, Small Business, Cyber Monday shopping hubbub is over, I want to say thank you to all of my customers. Because of you, Tangerine Designs was able to donate a portion of all sales to the Red Cross disaster fund.

Thank you for giving up a discount in exchange for helping others! You Rock!

Black Friday Weekend Updates

I'll be updating the shop starting on Thanksgiving night at 10 p.m. CST, and adding more throughout the weekend. Here is a preview of the project bags that will be going up this weekend. Please note that whereas I have several of some, others are the last of their kind. Please click on any image to enlarge.

Remember that this will be the second year where I will be donating a percentage of every sale from 10:00 pm CST Thanksgiving night 11/28/13 to 11:59 pm Cyber Monday 12/2/2013 to the American Red Cross. There have been many recent disasters, including the tornado devastation in the United States Midwest and the typhoon in the Philippines, and every little bit helps for those who need it.

I hope that even if you are not planning on purchasing from Tangerine Designs during these updates that you will consider donating to the American Red Cross or other charity/non-profit organization this holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

Black Friday Weekend - Pass It On

Here at Tangerine Designs, I am diligently working to complete plenty of project bags for the upcoming holiday season. I plan to update the shop randomly throughout Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. I'll be posting a detailed preview of items that will be for sale throughout Black Friday weekend as it gets closer.

I know that every year people look forward to Black Friday weekend for great sales and deals. Rather than help offer a discount this holiday season, I thought it would be great to continue our annual Tangerine Designs giving tradition. This will be the second year where I will be donating a percentage of every sale from 12:00 am Black Friday 11/29/2013 to 11:59 pm Cyber Monday 12/2/2013 to the American Red Cross.

Shop Update 11/3/13 Preview

On November 3, at 7 pm CST, the shop will be updated with some new project bags, metric fox needle gauges, a sheep pin/brooch, and the preorders for this year's Christmas Ornament.  The project bags include: So Foxy, From Here to There, Too Much Awesome, Reindeer Stitches, Narwhals, and the Just One More Row podcast bags.

The pin/brooch is the same sheep as the sheep buttons in the shop. They are made out of walnut, and I have hand stained their faces and waxed them.

The first round of Christmas ornaments will be shipping around Thanksgiving. The 2013 ornament will have a fox on them because, "What does the fox say?" Falalala-lala!

I will also be opening a listing for last year's ornament (the very first issued) in case you missed out last year and want to join in a new tradition.

The Shop will be closed from November 7th through the 16th. Any orders placed beforehand will be shipped by the 7th.

Rhinebeck 2013

I've been back from the New York Sheep & Wool Festival in Rhinebeck, NY for five days now, and I'm already missing all the great friends and atmosphere. It was my first festival, and did I pick a great one to start with?!

I met several friends (you might recognize some in the photos) at some cabins in the Catskills, sat around campfires, ate good food, and saw sooooo much yarny goodness.

There are several things that I suggest you do if you ever go to Rhinebeck. First, walking shoes. Yes, this probably goes without saying, but I say it anyway. There is so much to see, so much to do, that you'll be practically walking or standing all day. I do suggest sitting down at times and just people watching. There are some truly amazing knitwear at Rhinebeck.

Which brings me to something else-know what you're wearing. What yarn, what pattern, what designer. And be prepared for people to pet you! We love yarn, people! If we didn't, we wouldn't go to a 2 day festival all about fiber!

And if there's one thing you MUST watch, it's the Leaping Llamas competition. I might sound boring to sit and watch llamas and alpacas jump over a bar, but nay my friends. It is the most amusing thing ever! The animals follow their handlers and mostly do what they do. So, the humans are jumping over an increasingly heightened bar to get their animal to jump. The higher it gets, the more hijinx ensue!

Finally, take in as much of the experience as possible, and try to go with friends! Yes, it's a fabulous time, but it's much better shared!

Now, for more pictures!  Click on any picture to see it bigger! Also, I had so much fun that I had to recuperate when I got home. So, the next update will be Sunday, November 3, at 7 p.m. CST. Don't forget the time change!

Strange Folk 2013 and Update

I had a fantastic time this last weekend at the Strange Folk Festival in O'Fallon, IL. Great people, food, vendors, and music was everywhere! There was tons of surprised faces as kids realized I had Police Box buttons, and lots of cute babies to ahhhh over. I met the lovely Sarah and Kristi of a new podcast called In a Sknit. They're local to me, and a complete pleasure to talk to.

I also did a great deal of shopping. Ok, way too much shopping! A spindle from Badger and Mushroom, fabulous yarn from the fantastic Megan of Skeined Alive Yarns, a book and vinyl sticker from Unicorgi, fiber from Yarn Geek Fibers, hand embroidered fridge magnets from Stitched Kitchen, Doctor Who art print from ArtMonkeyWorld, a necklace from Villa Design, a vintage chicken egg cup from South City Studio, the Limited Edition Strange Folk Gnome print by Jeffrey at Handmade Family, a glasses case from Creature Type, and my favorite, a crochet blanket from Parsimonia. There was sooooo much more I could've come home with, but I decided my gluttony had to come to some kind of an end.

To get a sense of how great the Strange Folk Festival is, check out this video from Michelle Volansky of Creature Type. She even managed to get a snippet of me getting my beloved afghan.

For those of you who couldn't make it out to the Festival this past weekend, I'll be having an update on Wednesday night at 7 CDT. There will be regular size project bags, sweater bags, wheel bags, notions bags, new wood buttons, fox knitting needle gauges, and even some clearance t-shirts! Unfortunately, I won't have time to post a preview. So, come check out the listings on Wednesday night.

Also, for fans of the Just One More Row podcast, the preorders for the special bags will be up on Saturday, October 5 at 7 p.m. CDT.

Thank you to everyone that stopped by this weekend, and to all my customers! Y'all are AWESOME!
